Project Summary
- TeachMi is a product meant to help first-generation students plan their next steps after high school.
- The goal is to allow students to create a plan for their future and learn about the myriad of options they have.

The Challenge
- First-generation students do not have enough information as to what path to take after high school.
- There is a lot of information out there about different paths a student can take, how they can pay for those paths and what documents they need to qualify and apply for these resources. It can be overwhelming.
- Latinx first-generation students in under-resourced schools who are low-income have this problem.
- When I was doing my research I found that there are 4.9 million Latinx people in Los Angeles county and 16.4% of Latinx students finish college.
- These numbers are staggering and I realized that there is a large need for this product.
- I am specifically targeting Latinx first-generation students because that was my experience and I know the most about it.
- From a parent’s perspective they cannot understand their children’s desire to go to Higher Education.
- They are fearful of having their children face a problem they know little to nothing about.
- From the child’s perspective they might feel scared, or alone in the process of applying to schools.
- They are fearful of asking for help and making a decision that is best for them.
- A clear plan with information on what to do next will save students time and allow them to make less costly mistakes for their future
Empathize
- This idea came from my own journey as a Latinx first generation student.
- There were a lot of unknowns for me and I had a lot of fear when applying to college.
- My parents did not want to see me go as far as I did and were more scared than I was when I left home.
